Essential Oils Part 1

EssentialOils250Back in December I decided to get certified in Natural Therapies using Essential Oils and Chinese Herbs.

Strike that, I have wanted to be certified for a long while, but in December I finally decided to take the plunge and get the job done.

The class was extensive, and the information provided was HUGE, quite mind boggling in fact.  It has taken me from then until early March to feel comfortable enough to share this new knowledge with my active clients.  There are a few that have been very willing to be my guinea pigs (HA!) and I have to say that just the little bit that has been done so far, the results have been truly amazing to watch.

Now I am trying to figure out a way to include it in my newly redesigned website.  Get Your Thin On is focused on creating a new movement which I am calling UnDieting (click here for a better understanding of the term).  In essence, instead of focusing in on the physical side of things (diet and losing weight), I am treating the body as a whole … so I include the mind and spirit along with the physical side of things.  Essential Oils fit right in with this focus.

Over the next few days, I will be spending time on Essential Oils, slowly building on what they are, and what place they hold for optimal health and well-being.

Enjoy the ride:

Question of the Day:

Have you used Essential Oils in your health and well-being regime?  If so, please share your experience.

  1. As you know Biz I am one of those guinea pigs and I cannot believe how this is working for me. Before starting the oils I was somewhat skeptical, however I have seen first hand how they work. My body is by no means easy either is it, but I do feel very confident that the oils are helping me greatly and will continue to do so. I am very excited to be a guinea pig 🙂

Yes Jen, you are indeed one of the guinea pigs, and I have to tell you how much I appreciate the willingness to try something new. That is how I learn and in turn be able to help others. I am sure you will be able to write a book when this is done on all your healing experiences! ::giggle::

I love essential oils. I use lavender oil mixed with coconut oil every day on my face. I use Frankincense to boost my anti-depressant. I use a blend called Brenda’s Blessing to ease the symptoms of pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder and to help my thyroid. I also use grapefruit oil in my water as an appetite suppressant. They all work great! I have others I use as I need them, but those are in my daily routine.

    • Johanna says:

By the way, Brenda’s Blessing is a blend of these oils: Spearmint (Mentha spicata), Myrtle (Myrtus communis), Frankincense (Boswelia Frereana),Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans), German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita), Geranium Rose (Pelargonium roseum), Dalmation Sage (Salvia officinalis).

I also forgot to add that for headaches, I made a mixture of peppermint, lemon, and rosemary oils in a sweet almond carrier. Works very well.

      • Biz Buzz says:

Ahhh, just replied to your other comment about using Frankincense for a migraine. Love your blend! BTW – the protocol for the Frankincense is to put it on your hands, rub it in and then inhale your hands cupped over your nose for about 5 minutes. It was simply amazing!

    • Biz Buzz says:

Johanna, what a list! Thanks for sharing! I just recently used Frankincense to stop a migraine, and I was quite amazed at how it worked. When I get my migraines, I get an aura first, and that is usually a cue for me to get things done because the rest of the day is toast. I looked up in my manual how to get rid of migraines, I did what it said, and within 5 minutes the aura was gone. I had an every so slight headache, but nowhere near what I am used to. Again, thanks for the sharing and for the visit!

      • Johanna says:

I did not know about this for a migraine. My oldest son gets migraines. I get them too, but only rarely. I will have to try this for him.

        • Biz Buzz says:

Let me know how it works for him.

  3. Melody says:

I have limited knowledge and experience with essential oils. I have used lavender for relaxation. I do believe aromas and scents can have a profound effect on us. I love vanilla, patchouli, amber, musk….for me, each elicits a different sentient feeling and even conjures up memories. I am excited to learn how to more effectively use them in promoting my health and well being. Thanks for sharing your expertise.

    • Biz Buzz says:

Lavender is one of my fave essential oils, has been for a very long time. It has so many different uses, but the one I use it most for is respiratory wellness and sleep. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Joan Meador says:

I am one of Biz’s guinea pigs and happy to be on this journey!! My needs are truly a work in progress and I know I will be using essential oils forever.

    • Biz Buzz says:

Thanks Joan for being a willing participant. It’s been quite the ride hasn’t it? I am amazed at the results in such a short time. Looking forward to the day when you say, hey, I am feeling good head to toe!

  5. Marcia says:

Lavender is great for healing burns. I always have a bottle in the kitchen. If I get a burn I immediately put straight lavender on it. When I use it I don’t even get a blister!

    • Biz Buzz says:

I did not know that Marcia, thanks for sharing that.

  6. Tara says:

I’m hoping to be one of your guinea pigs! 🙂 Currently I use lavender oil as a bug repellent with great results.

    • Biz Buzz says:

Yippee Tara, you are! Lavender Oil is my GO TO oil for almost EVERYTHING!

  7. Mary Snider says:

I too am hoping to be a guinea pig, too.

    • Biz Buzz says:

Yes ma’am, we are on our way!

  8. Kathleen says:

Thank you for this wealth of information! One of my daughters turned me on to essential oils, but I always have to ask how to use it… drink it, rub it or smell it. I got some once for an earache and put it in my ear when I was suppose to drink the drops with water : /
