Why Get Your Thin On?

No More DietsYou must learn a new way to think before you can master a new way to be. ~ Marianne Williamson

I am tired of diets; how about you?

Don’t get me wrong; I am totally in love with the hCG Protocol. I find it a miracle. However, I have been around diets long enough to really understand and embrace the truth of something I tell my clients.

It’s not what you lose, but what you keep off that’s important.

Once we are successful in losing our excess pounds, the even bigger challenge becomes keeping it off. And for many of us, yo-yo dieting becomes our norm.

In addition, sometimes I get the sense some people out there are using the hCG Protocol as an encouragement to start or nurture an existing eating disorder.

Stay with me here.

Have you ever looked up the definition of an eating disorder?  While diagnosing is very involved, let me bring it down to its simplest terms:  binge and purge.

Both words are so full of negative energy; it gives me the heebie jeebies just to write them.  During my many years of coaching and as one of the founders of a diet site I have seen this phenomenon many times.  It can become a reoccurring cycle for many people.

Perhaps I could find two better words to describe this: indulge and restrict.

But seriously, who am I kidding?  Even if I pick nice words, a disorder is a disorder.

Dieting is restricting or purging; whether you use the hCG Protocol, or any other diet, or exercise, or laxatives, or pills, or, or, or.  Indulging can be as simple as eating foods that are not optimal for your body; or it can be going completely into rebel mode and on a flat out binge.

Here is the real question to ask ourselves:  How’s that working? Is this the way you want to live your life?

If that sounds a little harsh, always remember, I lump myself in with the yo-yo dieting movement.  In my own life, I have lost 100 pounds way more times than I care to admit.  So I am right there with you.  I speak from experience.  I lived it.

That was until I found what worked for me. Drum roll, please!

The answer was to get balanced.

I finally saw the light through my business coach’s help. That’s right; a business coach and not a nutritional coach.

She called it:  get back to center.  In the incredibly stressful being your own boss world, she emphasized the need to establish a routine always reminding yourself to get back to center.

At one of her retreats, the group participated in an exercise helping to bring this concept home.  During the exercise, I had an epiphany.  To crystallize it, my coach was describing the art of bringing balance to our lives.

I desperately needed balance; not only in my work, but in my home, including: my Mom duties, my daughter duties, being a caregiver, my teacher duties, being a homeschooling Mom, and the list goes on and on.

What was the epiphany’s highlight?  The vital importance and duty to take care of this magnificent gift I had been given — my body.  How could I fulfill all these other duties with a body that wasn’t at optimal performance?  I would just putt putt around, run out of gas, and then, what am I good for.  HA!

My conclusion:  I had to attain balance in what I was using to fuel my body.

I had to start taking a different approach to my nutritional needs.  I had to start concentrating on what was optimal for my body; instead of what was fast and easy, or, perish the thought, simply what tasted good.

I had to stop this rollercoaster of trying to find the next best thing, and just do something simple.

Get balanced.

And do you know what?  This worked for me.

And, as with all my theories, after testing and proving successful on me, I am delighted to report that after a little more than a year working on this balancing concept with some of my clients, it’s working for them, too.

Early last fall, I was granted a gift, and with that gift, decided to renew, refresh, and rebuild the HTA website.  I wanted the new site to express a new direction. One where, although diet was an important part of the whole, it was wasn’t the focal point.

If we consider the mind, body, spirit as legs in a three legged stool, then when we concentrate on only one leg, it unbalances the whole. It is vital to focus on all three legs giving us a firm foundation.

Another way to look at it is balancing the tires on our car. If one tire becomes out of balance it begins to affect the entire vehicle and eventually causing major damage. When we fix the balancing problems and take care of our vehicles, then we run smoothly down the road.

The same is true of our bodies. If we want this vehicle we call our body to be smooth running and have optimal performance, then we must take great care to balance our minds, body, and spirit.

Then it hit me.  No more diets.  I don’t want a website only focused on dieting. I want it to be more. Enter the UnDiet.

While Get Your Thin On has been our slogan for many, many years, I didn’t realize that slogan’s power until I started fleshing out the new website’s details.

To Get Your Thin On comprises and incorporates much, much more than thinning out your body.  Thin out your mind by getting rid of counterproductive thoughts and old mental trappings. Thin out your spiritual side by honing in on what makes you tick, ridding yourself of all the other stuff that is just fluff, and discovering what nourishes your whole being.

When we recognize, acknowledge, and work on balancing that mind, body, spirit interconnectivity, we turn on the Power of UnDieting.

And sustaining lifelong maintenance becomes the reward. Flourishing, strengthening our inner being; fueling our bodies the most nutritional foods; our minds with positive affirming intellect; and our spirits lifted with joy and peace.

Welcome to the new Get Your Thin On website.  Take a gander.  See if something strikes your fancy.

This is our new beginning.  I invite you to embark on a new path. Try on a new way of thinking.  Let the Power of UnDieting become your norm.

Get your keys and start the ignition!

Get Your Thin On and become the master of who you want to be.
