Who Knew This About Zucchini?

Zucchini vs AsparagusI love it when my clients make me do research.

Seriously.

The more a client is vocal with me, asking me questions, testing my knowledge, the more we both learn.

This morning a client asked me:

Can I do zucchini with my steak (day)? We have a ton coming from our garden right now.

Believe it or not, no one has ever asked me that before!

As is my way, I started to research, and what I found out was pretty darn awesome!

When I create a correction day, I take a lot of different things into consideration.  For a steak or salmon day, there are two things at work that allow the intended result to occur (losing the day before gain):

  • Fasting:  By giving the body time to rest after an indulgence you are allowing it 1) use up the additional calories as energy and 2) you are giving your body time to rest and recovery from anything it perceived to be a poison.
  • Potassium:  When you increase your intake of potassium, it can act as a diuretic.  Both a steak and a salmon day are loaded with potassium.  As such, they help the body gather the inflammation and dispense it.

Those two factors produce a correction day that ends in good results.  Lost weight.

The original correction day was done with steak only and was found in Dr. Simeons Pounds and Inches manual:

Skipping a Meal

the moment the scale goes beyond two pounds, even if this is only a few ounces, they must on that same day entirely skip breakfast and lunch but take plenty to drink. In the evening they must eat a huge steak with only an apple or a raw tomato.

Over the years, I have modified this particular correction day into either steak or salmon and then a choice of either an apple or a variety of veggies.  This variety has included only tomato (original), asparagus or artichokes.  I am adding zucchini to the list because look at this comparison (click for a larger view):

Asparagus vs Zucchini

As you can see, per 100 grams, zucchini is a power punch of potassium!  Totally doable for a steak or salmon correction day.

If you are new to this blog, and don’t know about Alternative Correction Days, please allow me to point you in this direction.

If you are ahead of me and have already used zucchini on a correction day (yeah for you!) then please share your experience.

Also, if you have found another veggie that has worked for a steak or salmon day, please share your experience as well.
